The Exhibition of Sri Chinmoy's weightlifting machines

Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart is a unique exhibition – a travelling museum of specially constructed weightlifting machines used by Sri Chinmoy, and will be on display in the Expo tent at the park by the monument of the Soviet army in Sofia, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m, November 10 through November 18. In Plovdiv it will be on display at 32, Gladston St., open daily from November 21 through December 2. The exhibit is accompanied by every day free public screenings of the documentary film Challenging Impossibility, which chronicles Sri Chinmoy's remarkable weightlifting odyssey. The 30-minute film will be shown at the Expo tent in Sofia every day from 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on weekends from 12 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. In Plovdiv the film will be shown at 32, Gladston St. every day at 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. and on weekends from 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:14 p.m.
The exhibition Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart is a travelling museum of specially constructed weightlifting machines that Sri Chinmoy used for hoisting immense weights with his arms, legs and shoulders. An enormous 2,600 lb standing calf raise, a unique apparatus for lifting individuals overhead, and an 800 lb bench press form the core of the exhibit. A gallery of photos and short films documenting these extraordinary feats of strength completes the display.
The exhibit is in the Bulgaria for the first time and Sofia and Plovdiv and is part of the European tour, in Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and other countries in the coming year.

The initial launch of the exhibition took place together with the premiere of the documentary film at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in April 2011. The film Challenging Impossibility centers on an evening in November 2004 when Sri Chinmoy performed dozens of weightlifting feats – a total cumulative weight of over 200,000 lbs - in front of hundreds of spectators. The film features commentary from bodybuilding legends such as Bill Pearl, Frank Zane and Mike Katz, Canadian strongman Hugo Girard, Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis and others.
Challenging Impossibility has been screened in more than 70 film festivals in over a dozen countries around the world, and has received several film festival awards.
Admission for both events is free.

The exhibition takes place in cooperation with the Town District Prague 1 under the patronage of the Deputy of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Josef Dobeš as a part of cultural events organized on the occasion of the European Year for Active Aging and Solidarity among Generations 2012. An honorary patron of the exhibition is the legendary Czechoslovakian bodybuilder Pavol Jablonický. Both the exhibit and the film screening examine the hidden unlimited potential of the human body and spirit and attempt to inspire all generation of citizens, irrespective of age, to rekindle hope and to continue to pursue their social activities and personal goals.
